The Denver Museum of Nature and Science is one of the largest museums of its kind in the country with 95 world-renowned dioramas, gems and minerals and the award-winning Prehistoric Journey exhibition.

Formerly known as The Denver Museum of Natural History, the Museum changed its name in May 2000 to more accurately reflect the broad spectrum of exhibits and special programs offered by the facility.

One of the featured attractions of the museum is The Phipps IMAX® Theater This 4˝ story-tall IMAX screen brings exotic images from all around the world to life. From the rarely visited and rigid conditions of Antarctica to the rolling orange dunes of the Sahara, the IMAX shows will entertain and educate on a grand scale.

The museum is filled with many of the Earth's natural wonders including one of the nation's largest exhibits of dinosaur skeletons. The whole area has contributed much to the science of paleontology as the first large dinosaur remains were discovered just a few miles west of Denver.

The museum has a varied and entertaining mix of exhibits, though the award winning Prehistoric Journey is definitely the headliner. It illuminates the 3.5 billion-year odyssey of life on earth. There is a short film on the evolutionary process that the world has gone through, plus a number of artifacts and attractions.

Children will probably most enjoy the visually stunning 95 animal dioramas that showcase a wide variety of earth's wildlife in dramatic poses and realistic settings. Most of the dioramas are interactive and include buttons that when pushed amplify the sounds of the animals and their environment.
The museum is located in City Park, and parking is free.
